Fairbanks officials allow use of marijuana at certain stores

FAIRBANKS, Alaska — The city of Fairbanks will allow people to recreationally use marijuana inside the authorized stores where they buy it.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports the City Council voted 4-2 Monday in favour of the ordinance, amending the law that previously prohibited on-site marijuana use at retail cannabis stores in the city.

The state handed down rules that went into effect earlier this month to allow marijuana use in special sections of stores.

The city had postponed action on a measure that would allow on-site consumption so officials could draft a ballot measure on the matter for October’s general election.

The council voted Monday against taking the issue to the ballot.
